Cromford Station Cromford railway station serves as one of England's prettiest train stations. The 19th-century station, originally called Cromford Bridge, was opened by the Manchester, Buxton, Matlock and Midlands Junction Railway, and one of the few stations along the line that still has its station buildings intact.

The trail starts and finishes at the wharf car park while public transport is available via the Trans-Peak bus and Cromford Train Station which lies approximately 1/4 mile to the north. From the train station, turn right following the road over the river bridge, and you will find the canal wharf on the left.

This is a pleasant countryside loop taking in a good mix of sights and terrains as you make your way along. Starting at the train station in Ambergate, the trail heads through to Crich, before sweeping round to Wakebridge, and finally joining with the Cromford Canal that winds back to the start. Take care along the rougher sections of this trail as well as the busier road sections. Keep an eye.

Cromford and High Peak Railway. The C&HPR was built ostensibly as a freight line, joining the Cromford Canal Wharf (High Peak Junction) and the Peak Forest Canal (Whaley Bridge).
